Samurai I
Cover took his inspiration from an old Japanese wood block print that depicts a samurai warrior attacked by three bandits. The engraving is alive with action, and is inlaid with both fine gold and copper.
Broadwell created the pen with aqua colored hard rubber, mokumé gané trim, and titanium, which made a wonderful canvas for Cover's work. Bottom inset photo shows the piston style mechanism that Broadwell created for this piece.

Samurai II "Trophy"
This commissioned piece is Broadwell's second Samurai themed pen. A dark red acrylic was used for the body with a titanium sleeve over the barrel and
mokumé gané trim, including the band at the base of the section. Ray Cover reproduced an 18th Century print by engraving and inlaying in fine gold and copper the Samurai with his trophy.

"Koi"
On this "Koi" garden pond pen, Ray Cover's engraving of the titanium cap delicately details Japanese koi meandering among lily pads and blossoms. Copper, fine gold, and platinum inlays highlight the engraved scene. The pen's barrel is solid mokumé gané. The graceful and simplistic clip is mokumé as well. Water garden green hard rubber components complete the garden pond theme.

Samurai II "Trophy"

The picture above shows the finely crafted chest Wally Becker created for Samurai I. The pagoda style box is finished in a hand rubbed mirror finished lacquer. The handle was made by Broadwell from the same material as the pen's body. A similar presentation box was created for Samurai II.
